Silver Salties Continue to Grow

Trigg Island SLSC, are proud to run a number of community engagement programs, that stretch beyond Surf Sports and Life Saving. With the recent appointment of Toni Yeo, as our Community Engagement Coordinator, we can now have a strong focus on program deliverance to the broader community.
One of these programs, which has been incredibly popular since its inception, is the Silver Salties program. Surf Lifesaving Australia launched this free initiative in 2021, as part of a “Move it Aus – Better Aging” Program. Targeted at those over 65, Silver Salties offers participants an opportunity to connect with other members while increasing fitness through activities such as Yoga and Group Beach Fitness Sessions, with the addition of Tech Savvy Salties, a short educational course based around technology.

Most recently, we’ve been able to offer 2 additional programs to our Silver Salties; Body Boarding and Swimming.
Last week was the first week of the body-boarding program offered to our Salties, and despite the wild weather, plenty came down to have a go and catch some waves.
Body-boarding and swimming will run alongside our yoga and fitness sessions throughout the year, with each session finishing with tea, coffee, and biscuits in the courtyard.

You don’t need to be a member of Trigg Island SLSC to join, so if this is something you (or someone you know) would be interested in joining, contact either Toni Yeo – Communities@triggisland.com or our Office at 9447 3556.

Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club acknowledges the traditional owners, the Whadjuk People of the Noongar Nation, of the beach on which we work and play. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and are grateful for their continuing connection to the land, sea and sky.
