Trigg’s Youth Set the Tone for this Year’s Aussies!

Trigg Island member dives for a flag at Aussies

The first to hit the beach and surf this Aussies was our youngest group of competitors, but that didn’t intimidate our superstars, as they demonstrated a tenacious attitude that set the tone for the rest of the week. As Saturday 25th was the opening day of the 9-day competition, it started with an opening ceremony, that saw our own Milly Kok read the athlete’s oath, alongside the official oath, and speeches given by Surf Lifesaving Australia officials.
After her graceful spoken piece, it was down to business for our young members. Oliver Browne proved to be a dominant force in the open water swims, walking away from the weekend with 3 Gold medals, in the Surf Race, 2km Ocean Swim, and Surf Teams events. Macy Boisvert was able to improve on her last Australian Championship performance in the Beach Sprint, this year earning herself a bronze medal, in comparison to last year where she placed 5th.
Whilst we had many medal winners, we also had a number of members reach the finals, which is not an easy feat in a National competition against Australia’s best youth athletes.
As the 22/23 season comes to a close, we want to congratulate all our youth members, age group managers, supporters, and families. It’s been a phenomenal season and we look forward to the next, where we’re sure will be filled with a competitive spirit, improvements, and joy.
